Former President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the family of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the White House.
He added that he contacted her parents and they were “devastated”.
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Memorials across West Virginia have occurred in their memory.
The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both members of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump informed the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”
Attendees came together over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of Trump’s government program to support policing efforts in the capital.
“She was the type of pupil that educators desired. She carried herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the Associated Press. “She was kind, considerate and always willing to assist people.”
Service details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Officials have charged a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder while armed.
The incident prompted the government to halt asylum applications and temporarily stop providing entry permits to holders of travel documents.
Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general stated on the program that she also intended to visit the family.
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a MP with distinction, per the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had courage,” he told the audience at the service. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
