The co-founders behind the famous frozen dessert company Ben & Jerry's has stated how corporate owner the multinational conglomerate stopped the launch for an innovative Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

Ben Cohen, who co-founded the company alongside his partner, revealed that he will personally create the controversial flavor within an individual collection showcasing causes Ben & Jerry's was prevented from addressing publicly.

Ongoing Conflict Involving Creators versus Corporate Owner

This latest announcement deepens the ongoing tension among the world-famous ice cream maker and Unilever, the UK-based packaged goods giant that has owned the ice cream brand since 2000.

The co-founders maintain how Unilever and their ice cream division the Magnum brand improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's from "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

The Fruit Sorbet becoming a Symbol of Support

Mr. Cohen revealed through an Instagram video that he is creating a new watermelon-flavored sorbet, requesting public suggestions regarding naming options plus additional components.

“I'm doing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen declared in a cooking set. “I'm making a watermelon-flavored ice cream that calls for lasting ceasefire in Palestine while demanding repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

The watermelon has become an emblem for solidarity with the Palestinian people due to its colors, which closely resemble those of the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Previous Social Engagement plus Current Changes

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's refused to sell their merchandise in territories under Israeli control, resulting in Unilever selling the Israeli operation over to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing continued sales in disputed territories.

The new dessert series will be developed under Ben's Best, the socially conscious ice cream brand which was first established in 2016 to support former political contender Bernie Sanders via the flavor "Bernie's Return".

Management Shifts plus Upcoming Plans

The founder indicated how he will develop other frozen dessert varieties that address concerns that Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking about openly due to Unilever.

This development comes after co-founder Mr. Greenfield resigned his position at Ben & Jerry's in September, following many years of involvement, citing concerns that its independence had been compromised following corporate moves to restrict their advocacy work.

At that time, Mr. Cohen commented how "Jerry has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was breaking it."

"My heart leads me to keep working inside the company to fight for its independence so that it can fulfill the social mission, the principles that established its foundation and has maintained for over 40 years," he explained to media outlets.
