The English Team to Start the European Championship 2028 Campaign at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium

England’s men’s team will commence their Euro 2028 journey at the Manchester City’s stadium, assuming they attain the relatively straightforward entry for a championship staged throughout the bulk of Britain and the Republic of Ireland.

City’s stadium has not hosted an Three Lions fixture since May 2016, when Turkey were beaten 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is highly likely to stage the Three Lions for their inaugural game on a Saturday in June 2028.

The team are scheduled to play their concluding group fixtures at the national stadium, but, in the event of winning Group B, their round of 16 match would occur at St James’ Park. Placing second would mean starting the elimination stage at Everton’s ground.

Championship Opening and Protest

The event was unveiled at an event in central London on Wednesday evening. Key representatives from Uefa and the organizing bodies were confronted as they approached the location by approximately 50 activists, who demanded Israel to be expelled from global football because of the situation in Gaza.

Banners were raised with slogans stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters shouted: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Timeline

The opening game of the tournament will be held at the Cardiff’s stadium in Cardiff, on Friday 9 June, a match that will include the Welsh team if they qualify.

Wembley will host the two semi-final matches and the final, which will be held on a Sunday in July 2028 with a commencement at late afternoon.

It is hoped that an earlier kick-off, which will also be adopted for Champions League finals from next season, will attract households and help reach a wider spectrum of audiences.

Participating Countries

The Ireland are scheduled to play their initial fixture at the Dublin stadium and the Scottish team would follow suit at the national stadium of Scotland.

The national sides of all four hosts will participate in the preliminary stage; two guaranteed slots will be held in reserve for any that do not reach the tournament through that route.

Stadiums and Knockout Stage

The Birmingham venue and The North London arena complete the nine host stadiums. Each one will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarterfinal matches held at every host’s main arena.

The qualifying draw will be held in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a tournament location last year when it became clear the Belfast stadium could not be redeveloped in time, on a date in late 2026.
