The American champion Assured of Being 'in a good place' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

Legendary skier Lindsey Vonn asserts she will be "perfectly prepared" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, on the back of claiming a place on the rostrum for the fourth instance in five World Cup events.

The veteran athlete, who achieved a milestone by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, finished third in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup podium finish.

Impressive Performance in the French Alps

Returning to the French Alps resort for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn crossed the line in a time of 1:20.60. She was just over a third of a second behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing second place.

"I didn't quite have enough direction on the first jump," Vonn said. "After that, I skied well. I'm happy with my skiing today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative."

This performance was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also taken third in the downhill on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Injury

Vonn officially retired in early 2019 due to persistent injuries. However, she made a stunning return in late 2024 after a major knee surgery.

With 47 days remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are set to run from 6-22 February, Vonn's form are timely.

She has an Olympic gold and two bronze medals from previous Games and is strongly positioned to compete for the United States at the 2026 Games.

"At the Olympics, I will be fully ready," Vonn affirmed.

Chasing More Titles

In addition to her Games aspirations, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four World Cup titles she has won over a professional journey spanning 20 years.

She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the top of the overall downhill standings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table.

This season's World Cup circuit features a nine more events scheduled before the circuit finale in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
