Rhythm and Blues Xmas Ball Review: A Heartfelt Trip Back to the 90s

The second annual Rhythm and Blues Christmas Concert showcased a roster of performers renowned for their Christmas albums. Rather than focusing on seasonal songs, the night served as a nostalgic reason for a trip back to the sincere and emotional sound of 90s R&B.

Opening Performances: Timeless Vibes

The group Dru Hill presented classic R&B in matching outfits, with music videos from the 2000s era playing behind them. Next, a set of primarily slow jams from the artist Joe prepared the audience for the headlining acts.

Toni Braxton's Moving Performance

The opening of Burna Boy’s Last Last cleverly segued into He Wasn’t Man Enough, tying in Braxton's musical legacy. Initially, her show with a backing band appeared anchored in the era of her greatest fame.

However, deep into her set, she opened up about her struggle with lupus and being told she might never sing live again. Performing Breathe Again in a single spotlight, she gave a profoundly emotional moment. “As long as I live, I will never forget tonight,” she declared sincerely.
