Outrage as Popular South African DJ Gunned Down in the Heart of Johannesburg.

A popular South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country battling rampant crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the downtown area on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the 40-year-old presenter was accosted by three individuals, one of whom began shooting at him before escaping on foot.

The reason of the shooting remains unclear and no one has been arrested have taken place, according to authorities.

Authorities indicated that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a premises near the Carlton Centre.

Security camera video reportedly captured a man with dreadlocks and wearing what looked like a guard's attire shooting on Stock before running away.

The DJ sought to escape after he was shot but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.

It was further revealed that Stock had an gun that was not fired and no items were stolen during the attack.

Key evidence, like spent shells, were recovered from the location.

Police have appealed eyewitnesses who may have have information to contact them.

"We know they traveled on foot after the attack, and officers have been following their trail to find their destination," remarked an authority figure.
