Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
