Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and continuing assault against it by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any damage is uncertain and the US has remained silent.
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - stated they have shot down missiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the offensive on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites linked to the the regime, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the government.
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a number of missiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported wreckage landed in a residential area in the capital, resulting in some property damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
