Democrats Denounce Trump After He Suggests They Should Face Execution

Lawmakers from the Democratic party demonstrated anger after Donald Trump accused a coalition of Democratic congress members of being "traitors" and stated they should be arrested and punished "with execution" following their release of a disputed video.

The Recording That Triggered the Controversy

The recorded message, released on earlier this week, showcases six Democratic elected officials who formerly worked in armed forces or security roles.

"As we did, you all took an pledge to defend and support this national charter," the representatives affirmed in the brief video. "At present, the threats to our constitution aren't just from foreign nations, but from domestically. Our laws are clear, you can refuse improper directives, you can reject illegal orders, you should refuse unlawful commands. No one has to execute directives that violate the statutes or our founding principles."

Donald Trump's Furious Reaction

The recorded statement appeared to trigger a heated response from the previous commander-in-chief.

On the following morning, Trump published on Truth Social: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these traitors to our United States should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

Democratic Officials Answer

Following Trump's remarks on Thursday, Democratic leadership published a unified announcement condemning the remarks.

"Political violence has no role in this nation," they wrote. "Representatives who participated in the video all acted our country with tremendous loyalty and excellence. We unequivocally denounce Donald Trump's disgusting and dangerous threats of violence against congressional representatives, and urge House Republicans to forcefully do the same."

The party representatives also mentioned that they had been in contact with security officials "to make certain the safety of these representatives and their relatives."

The officials who participated in the video also released a response.
