Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his first title for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has endured a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in particular - caused him exiting of the top ten and eventually parting ways with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily improved in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive win over opponent Moutet.

It is the player's initial title after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hardcourt after spring of that year.

The win also signifies Medvedev has secured 21 victories at 21 different events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my both daughters together, so to win a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the first title I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, featuring in Halle previously this season.

His defensive play style and regular outbursts on the tennis court had prompted some to doubt if his ability to perform at the elite level was finished.

However the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and play positively, backed up by an better service.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult opponent, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden professional title, seized the initiative to force a decider.

Moutet saved four initial break points in a tight third set before the champion won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, he secured victory with a shot at the net area, with his opponent incapable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
