Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Police then located many other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials state early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for tips.
A senior official commented the attack left him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a assailant focusing on individuals of migrant background in 2020.
