Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under house arrest.

The ex-president was sentenced of orchestrating a military coup in the ninth month and sentenced more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he continued under house arrest pending appeals.

He was convicted of heading a plot aimed at maintaining his control after he failed to win the presidential race to his left-wing rival, President Lula.

Top judicial officials said that he knew of a scheme which encompassed plans to assassinate his opponent and his VP candidate, Alckmin, and to arrest and execute the presiding judge - the High Court judge who has been overseeing the former president's case.
