Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network unveiled a completely new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a serene talk show. During a period often defined by dark humor, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming appeal.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about watching this lovable family go about their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to help comedy break out of its current sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

The Path Forward

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well help usher in that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to experience the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
